Our family has lots of animals. Two of which are ducks. One white female we call Aflak and the other, a male with many beautiful, dark colors, who we call Cognac. We also have several chickens and one rooster.
There has been somewhat of a feud going on since we brought the two ducks to our home several months ago. The ducks had previously been raised with chickens so it was only natural that they want to hang out with our chickens when they arrived here. But our chickens were having none of that. The rooster began running the ducks off immediately. Day after day this continued. I think the rooster began to enjoy it. He seemed to get more “cocky” and strut around. As if to say don’t mess with me or else. He is the only rooster so he’s the big man on campus.
Well, a new day has arrived. Our ducks are much bigger now and much larger than our chickens and rooster. A few weeks ago my son began yelling about the duck and chickens. I couldn’t make since of all the commotion. He was so excited and emotional. I ran outside thinking the rooster was after the ducks again, only to find that the duck had attacked the rooster. The duck had managed to somehow get the rooster with his beak. The poor rooster was helpless inside Cognac’s mouth. Cognac was slamming him up and down into the ground. After momentarily being in shock, I began running out to the animals; yelling and making noise. I didn’t know what else to do. This worked. Cognac dropped the rooster. The rooster took a moment and shook his head. He quickly regained is composer and again to my surprise he charged at Cognac and the race was on. Cognac made a B line straight for the pond. He made it just in time, because the rooster was gaining ground quickly. I fear what would have happened if Cognac would not have made it to safety.
Needless to say I believe they have declared War because it is not unusual to see one of the ducks chasing the chickens or rooster or vice versa. There all involved in this feud now. I wonder how it will end.
